A few reminders for trick or treaters:
- Avoid masks, wigs or eye patches that will block vision. Use a hypoallergenic makeup which is a safe alternative to a mask. If the costume must be a mask, make sure the wearer can see clearly and be able to breathe.

- Choose clothing that is light in color or has reflective patches sown into it to assist in being seen.

- Cross only at the corners of the block. Always look both ways before crossing the street and never cross the street from between parked cars.

- Use glow sticks or a flashlight when trick-or-treating after dark.

- Never eat any treats before it has been checked by an adult.

- Trick-or-Treat in your neighborhood and if under the age of 10, have an adult accompany you.

- Never go inside a stranger's house, apartment, condominium or mobile home. It is OK to receive candy outside the door on the porch or steps.

- Never accept candy from people in vehicles or accept rides from strangers.

- Always Trick-or-Treat in groups, do not go out alone.

Countryside's official Trick-or-Treat hours are from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Countryside's Police Department and the Emergency Management Department will be out on patrol in marked and unmarked squads and can be flagged down to report suspicious activities. If you witness suspicious activity, call the Police Department at 911 for emergencies or 708-352-2171 for non-emergencies.

Happy Trick or Treating!
