The shopping center, located on Plainfield Road just south of 55th Street, will be undergoing a renovation including the addition of two retail buildings. "This is a great example of a property owner increasing their investment in Countryside," Conrad said. "These shops are an asset to our City and these renovations are going to continue to make the center a retail destination." The improvements include adding a stucco finish with prominent features at the major retail stores including T.J.Maxx Home Goods, Marshalls and Famous Footwear. Masonry also will be used to wrap the columns in front of each store. The construction will include the addition of two retail buildings in the outlot parcels of the shopping center. The proposed outlot building on Brainard Avenue will be approximately 5,600 sq.ft. with the Plainfield Road building measuring 4,800 sq.ft. In addition to the construction, the improvements will include the installation of an underground detention basin at the east end of the parking lot. These drainage improvements are expected to capture more than 70% of water runoff from the site. Customers also will notice improvements in the parking lot. The spaces will be realigned for perpendicular parking and landscaping will be added to the lot. The stores at Salem Square will be open for business during construction which is expected to begin this spring. These improvements to the retail center are in line with various projects and improvements taking place throughout the City. LaGrange Road will be part of a beautification project which will include lighting, signage and walkways. Some of the City's auto dealerships have recently expanded and the City is aggressively marketing two properties on LaGrange Road for retail use.
