COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Little things can make a difference. The Countryside Police Department will prove that principle true by hosting their second "Cops & Tables" event on April 11 at Ledo's Pizza to benefit the Special Olympics. Officers will not be afraid to get their hands dirty as they clear off tables for appreciative customers from 5-9 p.m. to earn tips for charity.

"We have been looking forward to this for months," said Officer Karl Rodey, who leads the Department's Special Olympics fundraising efforts. "Cops & Tables is a great time for our officers to bond with the community all while benefitting a very special cause."

The event is one of many promotions put on by the department in which proceeds benefit the Special Olympics. "Cops on Top," will take place at Dunkin' Donuts on May 9 during which officers, standing rooftop, solicit donations from the customers below.

"Our City is proud of the police department's active involvement," said Countryside Mayor Robert Conrad. "Events like Cops & Tables bring the community together to have some fun and support the Special Olympics."

The officers' goal is to out-raise last year's "Cops & Tables" donation total of $1,500. The April 11 event will not be the last time officers gather to raise money for the Special Olympics. The department is planning two additional "Cops & Tables" events this summer, including an outdoor pizza party that would be attended by some of the Special Olympians.

"These events are a blast for everyone involved," said Rodey. "We are trying to schedule as many as possible so we can raise as much money and have as much fun as we possibly can!"
