COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Two properties along LaGrange Road will have new owners very familiar with the area. The Countryside City Council expressed their intent to purchase the Dodge City and Ethan Allen properties on LaGrange Road at their March 26 meeting. The properties located at 5949 S. LaGrange Road and 6001 S. LaGrange Road, respectively, have been vacant and on the market. "We see these as prime development opportunities that do not present themselves everyday," said Mayor Robert Conrad. "We want to be a part of shaping our business district future and finding the best use of this land." These prime properties will be taken into consideration in the City's market assessment. The City will be undergoing the market assessment to help guide an economic development strategy that addresses what should be done and how the City can do it. As part of the assessment a redevelopment vision and implementation strategy will be created to help the City and private investors make short- and long-term development decisions that contribute to the well-being of the City. The City Council also is exploring creating a business development district on that stretch of LaGrange Road. Currently, the City is aggressively marketing two properties, the former Pleasantdale Fire Protection District station and the former motel property. Requests for proposals for the former motel property are due at the end of the month. "We are looking forward to this new chapter in Countryside," Conrad said. "Our business landscape is evolving and we have great potential in our available sites." Recently Countryside formed an Economic Development Committee whose charge is to focus on development opportunities within the City. These actions coincide with the City's marketing plan which includes a billboard campaign touting the development opportunities in the City. |
