A look to the future

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Countryside is taking a closer look at the development opportunities in the City both for today and in the future. The City is committed to seizing new opportunities with an aggressive effort to revitalize and expand its commercial corridors.

In response to a request for proposal, Countryside City Council has selected Economics Research Associates of Chicago to prepare a market assessment for the City. This assessment will help guide an economic redevelopment strategy that addresses what should be done and how the City can do it. They also are charged with creating a redevelopment vision and implementation strategy to help the City and private investors make short- and long-term development decisions that contribute to the well-being of the City.

"We want to take advantage of our development opportunities while keeping in mind the best interest of our residents and businesses," said Mayor Robert Conrad. "It is important that we stay ahead of any changes in our commercial corridors and plan for the future. We want to maintain and grow our tax base and this study will help us with that plan."

The assessment will include the following commercial corridors: all of Joliet Road within city limits; all of LaGrange Road within city limits; all of East Avenue within city limits and all of Plainfield Road between East and Brainard avenues.

The new vision is intended to help Countryside maintain and grow its sales and hotel tax revenue through an action oriented economic development strategy.

A new development plan will tie in with the streetscape beautification plan for LaGrange Road as part of a grant project through the state. LaGrange Road between 55th Street and Joliet Road will include sidewalks, landscaping, and signage.

The City is currently aggressively marketing two properties on LaGrange Road for development. A request for proposal has been distributed for 5631 LaGrange Road and the property at 5745 LaGrange Road is also on the market.

The assessment is part of the City's continuing development campaign. Countryside is marketing properties with new development signs on available property as well as welcoming new and expanding businesses with "Getting It Done" signs throughout the City.
