Police Chief to serve on State Association

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Countryside Police Chief Timothy Swanson is not only leading the way in Countryside but is helping to shape the future for Illinois Police Chiefs as vice president of the state association.

Swanson was recently elected as a vice president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. He will serve as one of the four vice presidents for four years before taking the role of President.

"It is a great organization that promotes our work as police chiefs," Swanson said. "I am proud to be a part of the board's leadership and am looking forward to increasing my participation."

In his role, he will oversee various committees including legislative, hometown security, chiefs mentoring, Special Olympics, public and private police liaison and police and citizen awards. He also will attend events on behalf of the association in his role as vice president.

"I am proud of our City staff and the work that they do. Chief Swanson has always been a leader in the police community. His new role with the association will continue to put Countryside at the forefront of state police departments," said Mayor Robert Conrad.

Swanson has been a member of the association since 2000 and previously served in the capacity of Sergeant of Arms for three years. He also is a member of the International Chiefs Aviation Committee through the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Swanson spearheaded the Illinois Regional Air Support Service which put Illinois' law enforcement helicopter Air2 in the sky in 2005.

Swanson said he wanted to get more involved in the organization to help promote the association and the professionalism in the industry. The mission of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police is to promote the professional and personal development of the association members through innovative services, training and camaraderie.

The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police will be in the international spotlight when one of its past presidents, Algonquin Police Chief Russ Laine, is sworn in as president of the International Association of Police Chiefs this fall.
