Countryside names Deputy Police Chief Countryside, IL - Police Chief Timothy Swanson announced the appointment of Scott Novak to Deputy Chief effective Oct. 9.
Swanson said the appointment was well-earned. His experience in law enforcement and in Countryside makes him a perfect candidate for the position.
"Scott is a great asset to the department. The residents of Countryside are in good hands with Scott on our team," Swanson said.
"Countryside is a great community to work in. It is a close-knit place that has both a residential and business base," he said. "I have enjoyed my years here and look forward to taking Countryside to the next step in law enforcement."
Deputy Chief Novak has been with the Countryside Police Department since 1993. Novak most recently served as sergeant in charge of investigations to which he was appointed in 2003. Prior to that, he served in the patrol division from 1993-1998 before joining the investigations unit. Novak's duties also included overseeing the K-9 unit.
He also serves on the Major Case Assistance Team which is comprised of 10 area departments who assist on cases involving such things as narcotics, burglary and surveillance. He also is a supervisor with the South Suburban Crime Task Force that handles cases involving homicides and non-parental abductions.
He began his law enforcement career serving as a retail loss prevention officer. He also holds an associate's degree in law enforcement.
Novak is married and has a son and daughter. He is replacing Deputy Chief Paul Mallon who retired last month after almost 30 years with the department.
