All Business Officials meet with IDOT on LaGrange and Joliet roads intersection
There were no corn dogs or carnival rides during Countryside officials' trip to Springfield during the Illinois State Fair, it was all business.
Countryside officials, Alderman Robert Conrad, Alderman Karen Michalczyk, Alderman Wayne Straza and City Administrator Ed Bailey, met with Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Tim Martin on Aug. 16 at the IDOT headquarters in Springfield. The pro-active meeting provided updates on the status of Countryside projects with the state.
"We were grateful to Secretary Martin for taking the time to meet with us," Bailey said. "Countryside has a number of projects coming down the pipeline and we want to be sure to partner with IDOT to accomplish safety and traffic flow with as minimal impact on our residents and businesses as possible."
The points the aldermen brought up include the resurfacing of LaGrange and Joliet roads intersection, the repaving of 55th Street from East Avenue to LaGrange Road and the reconstruction of the 55th Street and LaGrange Road intersection.
"Both of these streets serve as gateways to our City. We need to be certain the job is done in a way to enhance our main thoroghfares," Bailey said. "The intersection redesign at 55th Street and LaGrange Road could impact some of our businesses. We do not want to lose any businesses or tax revenue and already have alerted IDOT to our concerns."
The City plans to continue to work with IDOT on engineering, funding and construction of these projects.
